It's also a weird move to not upgrade the 11" screen. How are they going to sell how good the new screen is without over-shadowing the one from the 11" ?

I'm tempted bc my old iPad Pro is practically vintage and I've been thinking about the 12.9 when I do upgrade.

You have to consider your using 12.9" iPad Pro in a bright environment like outdoors.

Yeah, outdoors, sunshine, I vaguely remember that stuff... 🤨 but only my iPhones know what means "outdoors" so the fine points of OLED v mini-LED debate will not be the pivot for my iPad upgrade when it finally happens.,

It’s a must for ANY mobile device. Especially as it covers accidental damage from dropping (at least a couple times).
well i never get any applecare for my apple devices, ipad pro 12.9 1st gen still pristine, the thing with this new ipad seems yield is low with reports telling us the technology seems not yet ready for mass pro

I've always bought my laptops as refurbs from Apple online, and had great experiences with them but always got the applecare anyway. I had to use it only once but hey when it's a pricey fix then it's well worth it.

The iPad Pro now is getting into laptop territory price-wise, so I'm tempted to start taking the refurb route there too. It would mean waiting awhile but my other iPad is still acting like it just arrived and its only problem is the usual one with gear... the slow inching towards the dread bump of eventual nonsupport of some next iOS.

I have a theory that these Bloomberg articles are purely market manipulation. Such an article lowers the share price for big guys to get in, and pumps anxiety into those who now fear iPads will sell out before they can snag one.

Good sign that a release is right around the corner.

I've purchased refurb macbooks; couldn't tell them from new and have had no problems. I check the Apple refurb store once in a while and they have never had any for sale.

With all these reports of long waiting times for chips, now production issues with miniLED, it would not surprise me if we have a non-miniLED version of the 12.9 with a miniLED version coming later in the year, iPad Pro Max or something to that effect.

If they don't upgrade the screen on the Pro 11" it'll most likely be because they were unable to secure the panels in the quantities they need.

In any case I'm getting the 11, it'll be a smashing upgrade from my Air 2. I'm looking for more RAM, FaceId, 120Hz and the new SoC and I hope to keep this monster for a very long time.

Whoever mentioned MINI LED offering higher maximum brightness to OLED forgot to mention that 1. battery life is adversely affected and 2. Devices can't even sustain maximum brightness levels without overheating.
Evidence?

No its not. Apple care is a must for desktops (relatively cheap) and laptops (repairs too expensive).
iPad, iPhone etc. = waste of money

Why do you think its vintage?

Edit: sorry, I forgot there was one version before of iPad Pro. I confused them - my bad - I apologise

For the record, this will not be the first time that the iPad Pro has two different screen specifications.
The 9.7" Pro was announced half year after the 1st gen 12.9", so the smaller Pro had better display spec. However, the 2021 Pros are expected to be announced at the same time
