I wonder if there will be some other benefit - higher PPI than OLED or something. Otherwise, yeah, I don’t get it.
Does OLED allow for LTPO technology?

Just looked it up, it was designed using OLED. Yeah I’ve got nothing either. Maybe better battery life

So why is OLED in the most expensive (actually in all...) iPhones when it's not that good? Can't possibly convince me that Mini-LED only works at 12.9" sizes and higher. Yield goes the other way around.

It’s better than LCD, and Samsung is able to supply that many units now. Apple is probably waiting to procure enough supply for tens of millions of iPhones before rolling it out to them as well.

That’s the reality when you are operating at the scale that Apple does.

agree that it makes sense from supply chain perspective, but why bother transition to mini-led if you are going to move to OLED soon after? is it because they decided they'll jump first on whatever comes after OLED and while waiting, they want us to stop thinking about comparing screens and develop their mini led solution ?

I just need raw power, bigger storage for the same price and thunderbolt port. Mini-led is not a must. Am I the only one?
If it means oledlike quality then yes I do need it. I switched from the samsung tab s6 (oled) to the ipad pro and movies/youtube dont have that wow effect anymore. Way less immersive.

Whoever mentioned MINI LED offering higher maximum brightness to OLED forgot to mention that 1. battery life is adversely affected and 2. Devices can't even sustain maximum brightness levels without overheating.

The 12.9" model is expected to have 10,000 mini LEDs. If true, that won't be a problem on the iPad Pro.
🤣 That's 115x87 zones. You'll be able to see that at high brightness outputs.
As for OLED, I have never ever experienced burn-in, and I'm a heavy mobile user.
True blacks are very satisfying, something iPhone users are finally privy to. But I guess the iPad is for artists 🤦

Every single year there’s a post exclaiming that they’re going to be product delays due to production issues.

I think it needs to be taken a little more seriously this time, due to COVID.

At least in the TV world one disadvantage of OLED is brightness. At this point OLED is simply not able to get as bright as LED or mini LED. If you're watching television in a dim environment, that is really no issue. But things like iPads are more likely to be used in a range of environments including very bright environments or outdoors in the sun. In that environment OLED loses its advantages. It's also still a more expensive technology. I'm not convinced OLED is a better option for an iPad at this point.

You know the Tab S7 plus is brighter than the iPad Pro ?

No, "The Galaxy Tab S7 Plus' screen illuminates to 430 nits, while the Galaxy Tab S7's screen hit a resounding 499 nits. As bright as they are, the iPad Pro gets even brighter, reaching 559 nits, easily outshining the 442-nit tablet average and the Surface Pro 7 (395 nits). "

why not OLED? Samsung has large OLED tablets. Better than mini LED will ever be
(don't start about burn in, your iphone doesn't have burn in either)

Maybe Samsung doesn’t want to deliver, they are too expensive or they just cannot produce for the scale Apple require.

On top of that, OLED doesn’t strike me as the best choice for a content creation device like an iPad Pro. Great for televisions of course.

This is a bit of a ridiculous launch. So screens are limited, chips too. 11" barely even gets an update at all (just A14 after 3 years). Erm okay.

But it’s an improvement from the minimum spec update they did last year on the Pro.

Burn-in is not the issue, OLED tech has improed a lot over time. If Apple was worried about burn-it they wouldn't have adopted OLED on most of their iPhones.
The reason is another, Promotion. Samsung has a hard time producing OLED displays capable of promotion at scale. They couldn't even make one for the Tab S7+, only the smaller LCD S7 has variable refresh rate (which improved battery life). And iPads need even more units... Rumors hint at Apple switching to OLED with the following generation Pro, once the new displays are more widely available....

My 2018 iPad Pro is still going strong....but I would love an updated iPad Mini with the flat edged design so i can use my apple pencil 2 with it. I love sketching on my iPad Pro...but sometimes i want a smaller iPad when traveling to sketch on. I know the current ipad mini can use the first gen apple pencil...but i don’t want to buy two apple pencils. I’d rather be able to use my 2nd gen apple pencil on both.

I think OLED burn in is a concern on iPads which is why it's rumoured they won't include it on future pro models but on the air

I don’t understand the fragmentation here. The iPhone 12 lineup shares the same display... so why are the pro iPads now being fragmented with their displays? $800 is still a lot of money for the 11” Pro so are they attempting to upsell their upcoming $1000 12.9” Pro??? I wanted to upgrade from my 2018 11” cause it has ghost touch but I won’t if the only new thing is a camera and processor. We shall see.🤷🏻‍♂️

Money.
