This is an honest question - does someone have a real understanding of why Siri is still so far behind every other voice assistant despite coming from a company with a $3 trillion dollar market cap that should have enough resources to create a fully functional one, if not a best-in-class one? I know that Apple doesn't like to rush into things and instead make them very good before releasing them, but at this point, it's really pathetic. I guess as long as their hardware is selling in the top 3 mobile phones, is there no pressure to improve it?
Complacency.

I’d be happy starting with it getting the correct eye colour of who you’re basing the Genmoji on. Up until now, it’s been too slow to create anything & no, it’s not the 1Gb internet connection nor the iPhone 16PM.
Your Genmoji generations are slow? What's your definition of slow?

I tried several prompts.

One (funny physician based on one of my family members) took 9 seconds and each additional variation was 3 seconds or less.

Another prompt (scrambled egg based on a family member) generated the first one in 3 seconds and each additional one in the same time.

A more complex prompt (but not based on a person): "A purple and green unicorn carrying a cactus while swimming across a river" generated each genmoji in 3 seconds or less.

That's on an iPhone 16 Pro. That's quite reasonable.

It probably never even existed besides as a render.

System wide translation would be great. I love how on android you can just press on the home bar and get an instant translation of whatever is currently shown on your screen without having to copy paste anything
You can do that? Wow. The UI of the latest Android is quite nice as well. And from what people say, it’s pretty stable.

On the other hand, we have a buggy iOS 18 that hasn’t been able to be there AI-wise, won’t be there for the next year, and instead is focusing on emojis…

Sometimes I envy Android users (at least Pixel users), and if it wasn’t because I don’t trust Google… I would have made the switch. Let’s hope that, at least, the new “glassy” UI is nice and fresh…

Not really a fan of Sunny Side Up, so I hope there is an option for an Over-Easy Genmoji. Maybe even an Over-Medium variant. I that know that Apple has the courage to make this happen, so I will remain optimistic.

Well if you believe they under deliver there are other manufacturers that hopefully don’t in your eyes.

However, maybe the average Apple consumer doesn’t believe they overcharge and under deliver.
We call those bandwagon or fair weather fans. Just because they aren't playing well doesn't mean you have to find a new team to like. People are allowed to be upset at poor performance.

People aren’t going to give up on a sports team. An electronic consumer oriented device is a totally different story. People claim they switch for various and sundry reasons: one of which the claim is too buggy with not enough functionality — or a similar theme.

Just more proof that these folks (CEO’s, Tech Bro’s, etc.) really don’t inhabit the same world as their customers/consumers. It’s so pathetically out of touch, it’s vulgar. And insulting to the folks that depend on Apple Hardware and Software to actually get real work done. Just don’t release crap for the sake of releasing it.

iPhones are tools in the end of the day. They are not sports teams. You are allowed to say Google did a good job, or Samsung did a good job. It’s ok if you want to use a Samsung after using an iPhone for years.

Apple should not be some religion with all kind of evangelists. It’s a phone, not a cult. I love tech. I own an iPhone 16 Pro Max as a daily driver and a Samsung S25 Ultra.

To be fair, the S25 Ultra is less laggy and has more great features. I won’t turn my back to Apple because I have a big ecosystem. But hey, it’s okay to say Apple needs to do a better job. I don’t even think I am telling them anything new. Probably they aware of that, over there in Cupertino.

Yes, and Blackberry was the dominant market leader for a number of years too, but basically collapsed when they were late to the party when the smartphone revolution came along. I don't think you realize how quickly things can change in this industry.

I'm very much aware of Blackberry having lived through that time period.

Apple isn't even close to that, other than in the minds of people on tech forums who have been saying that for 10 to 20 years.

At the end of the day Apple's arbiter of that occurring rests with Apple's 1+ Billion *active and repeat customers* who continue to purchase Apple products year after year after year. It's their vote that counts. Not the hundred or two techies on tech forums who love to take a swing at Apple daily - that's just wishful thinking.

Definition? Like not slow, same as anyone else's.

I know it's beta software, but c'mon gimme a break like I'm gonna stare at my screen waiting for a Genmoji to be created, where I get an error, it can't find the person & then does, but says there's an error & you have to start again (Apple Intelligence should start by realising that the person you're most likely to tag is the person in the chat you're replying to)

This isn't image playgrounds which I'm more forgiving with - what's realistic 1? 2? 4? 5? 7? 10? 15? 30 secs or 1 minute?

In the time you've read this, I've tuned out.

Emojis are spontaneous, I ain't wasting time waiting (& that's after waiting for it to pick the right person on a delayed screen)

It's instantaneous or its not, glad to hear yours is working though I especially liked the comical anecdotes that you put forthwith and I'm sure that your family members appreciated it, it'll really help with my problems that I'm experiencing.

Like seriously, I'm one of the biggest apple fans going, have been for over 40 years, but this is 💩 of the first order.

Dagwood: "Mr. Dithers, I know you told me to do some AI work on the Smithers contract and have it ready today. But I found out I have an iPhone, not an Android, and so I added some blended emojis to the contract instead, including right on the title page. Just look at this big splatty egg! It's got legs and arms!!"

[Mr. Dithers kicks Dagwood in the butt]
