Doesn't apple sell a total of around 10 products? They don't need more than 1000 sq ft! :)

I wish large corporations would be so kind as to look into other locations for their retail outlets than in only New York. I have nothing against New York, but why do so many companies choose to establish a retail outlet in only New York?

I live in Los Angeles, I know it's a big city, but we could definitely use a few more :apple: Stores. Especially ones that most of us don't need to use a freeway to arrive at one.

The simple reason is NewYork City is one of the most densely populated areas in the country. Business can do things here that would never fly ANYWHERE else in the country. I've been into both Apple stores in Manhattan at several different times during the day and theyre always packed. At the 5th ave store, you cant even look at a machine because there are too many people sitting at them checking their email.

This alone shows the necessity for at least one more store, I wouldnt be suprised if we end up with 5 stores within Manhattan.

Most large scale businesses open here because success is practically guaranteed, especially a product line like Apples. Why open a store if its not going to be profitable?

I once read that the population of NYC doubles every morning. Meaning there are roughly 7-8 million residents, and another 7-8 million commuter and tourists that come in everyday. That is a tremendous amount of people to serve within a 25 sq mile area.

If even .1% of the daily population bought only a Macbook per year, that would represent a minimum of $16,000,000.00 in sales... not bad odds

no it will not be because of the area.

let's hope this one is 24/7 also.

sure it's cool buying an ipod at 4 in the morning, but not having to go all the way up town for it.

i live a block away and zoning will never allow!

its meatpacking district -it sits between chelsea and the west village.

for those of you dont know Google has offices across the way.

You want to know why?

Heres Why:

Visitors (international and domestic) to New York City in 2006: 44 million
Visitor spending (international and domestic) in 2005: $22.8 billion

It's probably closer to 25 billion today and I see many of those 44 million visitors shopping in one of only two stores.

Hmm.... nice Food Netword billboard.

...not

By the way, I know NYC is the center of the universe and all, but how come they have, like 8 Apple Stores with 3 flagships and other big cities (like Minneapolis ahem) have 4 puny Apple stores and 0 flagships?

Apple: buy out Lane Bryant's lot above you in the Mall of America, put in a nice glass staircase and freaking capitalize on the 3/4 million weekly foot-traffic at MOA!

 Not that this would benefit me at all... ;) :D

Did anyone notice the gaffe that IFOApplestore made describing the cross street as "9th avenue and HUDSON street" when the address says 14th street? :p

I like the fact that there is going to be a west side Apple store. It's a pain for me to get the east side of Manhattan, and now I can take the A train to 14th street and walk down 1 block. Though I always thought that 9th avenue is kind of ****** in general...

As for Tekserve, I doubt they will go away. They give you the straight dope on what Mac products have the most problems (like the Studio display CRTs in early 2000), and they have sales of Mac products at decent discounts.

Honestly, this pisses me off. Yes, I know New York is a very large city, and practically doubles in population during the work day, but it still makes me sick.

I live down in Louisiana. The closest Apple store is 6 hours away in Houston, and not even in a very easily accessible part of Houston to boot. I wish Apple would be a good corporate citizen and take advantage of the Hurricane Katrina "GO ZONE" tax credits and build a store in the French Quarter down in New Orleans.

But, what am I saying? I wouldn't want to invest in New Orleans right now anyways with all the rampant crime and incompetent politicians.

There are about 1,000,000 residents in Manhattan. During the day there are about 4,000,000 people in Manhattan at work, play, etc.

That's more than double...

As for all 5 boros, there are 8 million residents; 12 million during the day.

Hudson intersects with both 9th and 14th at that spot so the description was right.

I agree that Tekserve will survive though they will probably take a hit. As for them being straight shooters, I think it depends on who you talk to. I went in there once asked about the pink cast to the Apple 23" display and the salesguy flat out denied he had ever heard or seen the problem, even as we were standing in front of a display model that was as pink as a gay pride parade.

BTW, those are my pics on the ifoAppleStore site so I'm happy to see people appreciate them.

Wow... Amazing... They need quite a few stores to serve them all.

You do realize that its about Demographics and the Incomes in those Demographics.

I just wish they had an actual store here in Montreal and not in Laval

x10

Laval can't even afford their own Metro, why do they have an Apple Store?

Plus all their seminars are in french, while my OS is in english...

Bon, qu'est-ce qu'on peut faire?

I'm really surprised that NYC only has 2 Apple stores at present.

Here in Milwaukee we currently have one, with a second due to open (with in about 500 yards of where I live - Yippee!) later this year.

So Milwaukee will have two and we are a lot smaller than NYC.

MANHATTAN has two stores so far, with a third (in the meat packing district) on the way. New York City has another one in Staten Island. Meanwhile, including the suburbs the metro area has _at least_ six or seven Apple stores. (The number varies according to how far out into the Long Island and NJ 'burbs you want to consider the metro area extending.)

I used to live just a few blocks from the meat packing district (now I'm far, far away). While I think it will be nice to have a fruit market there too (sorry, couldn't resist) I still think Apple should pay long-overdue attention to some other geographic markets. For example, all those television production crews and video game designers in Vancouver BC.

I agree! Vancouver needs a store. It's such a pain using the resellers. I'm really surprised it's taking Apple so long to open a store in Vancouver.

When they do open a store here, they should reward us with a flagship store. :D

I checked Google Maps, and you're right... Goes to show that I don't really frequent that area much. I am more familiar with uptown and midtown than downtown.

As for Tekserve, during the time I had to use them, the techs there were pretty good, so maybe the good guys graduated to something else.

You do realize that its about Demographics and the Incomes in those Demographics.

That wouldn't explain stores located in Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and my personal favorite, Des Moines, Iowa.

Sure, Iowa is really hoppin' right now because of the ethanol industry, but most farmers aren't rich, and definitely aren't in the "demographic" and there's really not much of anything else in Iowa except for corn.

Yes, the city of New Orleans might have had a lot of poor people, but have you ever been to Uptown, my friend? Or the suburbs of New Orleans? Mandeville? Trust me, just because the majority of the residents of the CITY of New Orleans are on welfare doesn't mean the immediate region is too.
