The fact that it's slippy, fragile, and so small that it is prone to getting misplaced or lost, is an indicator that it's not the best designed remote. There's much I love about the Apple TV remote but there are still many things where it falls down...

Do people lose their remotes often? It never takes me more than five seconds to find one. This is one of the gimmick uses for AirTags when you run out of ideas where to put them.

I would rather spend the $30 towards the new remote than find this one. The couch can have it!

I put a piece of brightly colored electrical tape on mine so it stands out more in a darkened room. Also helps with orienting it correctly. Cheap easy hack that's been hugely helpful around here.

Can’t apple just put a “find my remote” feature in it? Just a simple beep when triggered on your iPhone. Seems kinda silly to buy a case for your tv remote just so you can put an Apple Air Tag on it. 🙄

You've got to be pretty poor in lifeskills to lose your remote that would need to rely on more tech to find it.

The remote itself should have been compatible with FindMy, assuming it isn't.

Also, will AirTags be a good solution for this since we now know the tracking ability can't be shared among family members? Seems like a remote-finding solution should respond to a request from anyone in the household.

You can attach additional Airtags to the remote for each member of your household 😀

It's still unbelievable to me the new remote doesn't have the W1/Airtag functionality built in.
I don't necessarily think FindMy item makes sense for a shared remote, but they certainly could have made it ping-able from the TV itself.

I guess I'm in the minority here, in that I've never lost my Apple TV remote.
They're never lost so much as slid into blankets, between cushions, behind the couch, etc. Would be great if it could just emit a noise in those moments.

Agreeing with that – would almost be its own feature as it isn't likely to be lost in the outside world. Let the phone tell your AppleTV to go trigger the beeping via its Bluetooth connection. Sure an M1-powered "point-to-find" would be a bonus, but really just a sound would go a long way for most users.

(Now that I think about it, I could see this also requiring the remote to wake at some frequency to check if it should beep.)

We have hit a point in which I’m afraid we are becoming too reliant upon technology. #airtageverything
I know it’s Apple but buying a product that can only be used if you lose something seems a bit overkill. It’s almost as if people are hoping they lose something. I think these are going to outsell AirPods.

this is news?? i'm laughing so hard right now.....wonder if MR knows there is a hat that you can put two soda cans in.

Yes, or from Siri or our other digital assistants or from Apple Watches. It's not so much that we are losing these things, but rather that they can extremely easily slip behind couch cushions, under blankets, etc. Just make a way that we can make them beep upon request.

I guess I'm in the minority here, in that I've never lost my Apple TV remote. Is there really a pandemic level number of people losing their ATV remotes that want tracking devices on them, or built in?
For me I don’t really need the whole airtag function. Just making it be able to make a sound would be all I need to find it easier, when it falls into the couch.

Do people really lose Apple TV remote that easily? Which means ANY remote you have is prone to disappear not just ATV.

Between the wife, myself and our 3 kids… the Apple remote vanishes faster than money after an Apple event. 🤣
Which means you will lose ANY remote and how do you plan to stick Airtags of other remotes duct tape?

Now do the Harmony Elite....

I was going to print out this and then just attach it to my harmony

This would also work for the Apple remote if you want something smaller

Here's my version:

I am tempted to make a version like the one the etsy seller is selling, but I like the directionality this gives.
