Zagg this week announced the launch of several hubs designed for the iPad and Mac, providing new options for connecting peripherals to Apple's devices.

The iPad-friendly 6-Port Media Hub features an integrated tablet stand, a set of simple-to-use media buttons for controlling video and music playback, and multiple ports. It includes an HDMI port that supports a 4K 60Hz display, a USB-C port with 100W passthrough charging, a USB-A port that supports 10Gb/s transfer speeds, an SD card reader, a micro SD card reader, and an audio jack.

Zagg's 9-Port Hub comes with an integrated USB-C cable and turns a single USB-C port on a Mac into nine ports. It includes two USB-C ports, 2 HDMI ports, a USB-A port, an SD card reader, a micro SD card reader, an Ethernet port, and an audio jack. 100W passthrough charging is supported, and the USB-C PD 3.0 20W port supports up to 10Gb/s for data transfers.

Zagg's high-end Pro Dock is an all-in-one stand and dock for a MacBook or an iPad. It holds a device up at eye level, while also supporting displays and peripherals through nine included ports. The Pro Dock comes with a satellite hub that is designed to allow devices to be plugged in while cables are positioned out of sight.

Available ports include a 20W USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port, a 7.5W USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port, two HDMI ports (one that works with a 4K 60Hz display and one that works with a 4K 30Hz display), a USB-A 3.1 Gen 2 port, a USB-A 2.0 port, an audio jack, and an Ethernet port. There is a 150W power supply included for charging connected devices.

It's quite unfortunate that Apple still has yet to offer an MFi program for the iPad's keyboard case connector, and that even premium iPad docks like Zagg's have to snake a fiddly cable around the side rather than just letting you magnetically snap the iPad in and out of the dock like on Apple's Magic Keyboard Folio.

$US400 for the Pro! They must be kidding themselves,..there are so many great alternatives at more than half the price. Sounds like Apple pricing for Kmart product.

I’m not sure that is fair to Zagg’s product. I don’t know anything about this new one, but we have a two year old keyboard case of theirs that has never been recharged yet (and it is in use almost every day) in that time.

That’s to cover the cost of including copies of Songs of Innocence

Zagg's web site is useless - under "specifications" for each of the new devices, they list "weight" and nothing else! For the 9-port thing that has what is claimed to be Ethernet (and appears to have an RJ-45 connector), which Ethernet? Fast (100Mb/s)? Gigabit? 2.5G? 10G? They don't say.

WTF is wrong with these idiot marketing people who write bad copy about technical products which does not permit potential customer evaluation of the products?

If it included Thunderbolt 5, I could understand the price, but plain USB-C? If it was USB-C 4 40gbps, I would expect them to mention it, but nothing on their site, so I assume it is 10gbps or maybe 20gbps, certainly not worth the money.

Google Home whatever it is called smart speaker/tablet thing with magnetic dock is the perfect design. Home hub. Great for receipes. Connected and always charged. Tablet on the go. Oh wait, missing iOS. That's the only model Apple should be considering. Any sort of HomePod speaker with a permanently attached screen is an immediate fail.

I agree but can the Magic Keyboard connector transmit data? Currently, when you plug a Magic Keyboard into a Mac, the iPad does not show up in the Finder. It seems like it can only charge but I suspect Apple could unlock more functionality.
