Just yesterday, we noted that Apple was planning two retail store openings for this week, with the Stratford City store in London opening today and the Jungfernstieg store in Hamburg, Germany following suit on Saturday. Apple has now announced two additional store openings for this Saturday, continuing its third quarter retail push to bring dozens of new stores online ahead of the holiday shopping period.

- Cielo Vista Mall (El Paso, Texas): Apple's first Texas store west of San Antonio, the Cielo Vista Mall location will fill a significant hole in Apple's retail store coverage. The nearest existing store is over 250 miles north in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The nearest store to the west lies over 300 miles away in Tucson, Arizona, while the San Antonio stores are over 500 miles to the east.

- Via Rizzoli (Bologna, Italy): Apple's eighth Italian store is the company's first in Bologna and is located about 60 miles from the Florence store that opened just over a month ago. The standalone store is the company's first in Italy to not be located inside a shopping mall.

I like the coverage though. Every new store that goes up is one more slap in Microsoft's face.
 
That Bologna store is ready to open? Looks like all the workers are sitting on their big behinds. No wonder Italy is due to join the PIGS of the EURO currency problem.
 
Offered a Job

As someone who lives near El Paso, I was called for the Apple store in El Paso and then interviewed for the job. They offered me a measly $12/hr full-time (I know some people would love that pay I'm sure), but with my experience and degree, it was a joke. But hey, they are retail. I just think they should pay their technicians a little better considering they are the richest company around. (I should note that I would've had to travel 35-45 min. or about 50 miles one way each day).

And still I question the market for an Apple store in El Paso. there just isn't enough money there.

To work in Apple store is like work in McDonalds but no free food. What is degree needed for? They have template instructions for all tasks.

Apple should hire mostly high school kids since they are more polite and less bitter and able to work harder for less. Is good business idea.
 
I very rarely respond but the posts about new locations opening are getting a bit absurd. This is Page 2 news. This is like getting junk mail on my MacRumors home page. :D

Possibly one of the reasons that Apple is the richest company around is, at least in part, because they pay retail workers, and possibly other "lower level" employees, low wages.It's one of many ways of keeping down the overhead to raise the profit margin.

Of course, charging a bundle for product also works.

(I love Apple stuff, have Apple stuff... just saying :) :p)

Yeah! We've been waiting for an Apple store in El Paso for a long time. That store is going to be packed. Can't wait to go!
 
Why does London need yet another Apple store. Plenty of other places in the UK would love one.

How are you basing that information on? El Paso has a decent strong economy. Do you know how many Mexicans come over and shop over here? We also have Ft. Bliss which constantly brining in soldiers who have money to spend. Not to mention two state universities (UTEP & NMSU) and a Medical School.

my advice for mr cook would be making the retail operation elastically scalable
and
ramping up hardware production to meet demand - also elastically scalable

lol omg. Are you serious? People of Greece do not work and steal money from EU. They commit violence and kill when told to work for money instead of getting for free. My country is successful and works hard, but suffers because Greece. So yes, buy toys, please.

I didn't say there weren't enough PEOPLE, I said not enough MONEY. El Paso is ranked #849 in per capita income amongst Texas cities, with an average annual per capita income of $14388.

Not exactly Apple's best demographic.
