Many of Apple's operating systems will be receiving design changes this year, according to the latest word from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Gurman previously reported that iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16 will have new designs, with added translucency for a more glass-like appearance. In his Power On newsletter this week, he said that the design changes will extend to tvOS 19 for the Apple TV and watchOS 12 for the Apple Watch, but he did not provide any specific details.

The design changes will apparently be inspired by visionOS for Apple's Vision Pro headset, and visionOS 3 is expected to have some design tweaks of its own.

Overall, Gurman said Apple is aiming for a more consistent appearance across its operating systems, especially for the Mac and iPad. He previously reported that iPadOS 19 will make iPads more like Macs, with improved multitasking, productivity, and app window management. In addition, a leaker known as Majin Bu claimed that iPadOS 19 will display a macOS-like menu bar while an iPad is connected to a Magic Keyboard.

Gurman previously revealed that iOS 19's new design is codenamed "Solarium," which is a room with glass walls that allow in sunlight. The codename could hint at the more translucent menus and buttons that are expected across iOS 19 and the other upcoming software updates, which Apple will announce during WWDC 2025. The developer conference is just two weeks away, with the keynote set to be held on Monday, June 9.

Despite the buzz surrounding AI lately, Gurman believes that the redesigned software platforms will be "the highlight of the show" at WWDC this year.

They have a hill to climb, Google I/O event was really impressive. Never had an Android, but I'm contemplation a switch now. Apple has felt too safe, slow, not evolving for the past few years.
They'll stick with an old, frail, never been innovative CEO because the shareholders make an extra $1 a share per quarter.

When Cook retires (even though he should've been fired about a decade ago), Apple needs to put "has the skills to actually innovate with new products," in the job description. As it is, the iPhone, Apple Watch (yes, it was in the plans before Steve died), the iPad, and the Mac have carried a company riddled in lawsuits, bad press, and buggy software.

All I want for a tvOS update, is for it to ask for user when it wakes up after an extended time off.
It should be more along the lines of iPadOS along with Apple TV seeing some necessary HDMI modernization. Apple TV service is too dominant without sprucing up paid for digital content of yours having improved catalogue and search. I can say the whole app that replaced iTunes needs a make over. Siri needs to access the information on internet for fact finding not this very limited abilities. Looking for where content is MIA.

I was thinking the same thing and was trying out a Google Pixel 9 since last week. Returned it today.
As much as I want to like it - Android can’t compete with the fluidity, easy use and ecosystem of iOS. I‘m trapped :)

I temper my expectations when it comes to something like this. I’d love to see changes for Apple TV but honestly I’ll be happy if they just get rid of the movies and tv show buttons.

Guess we will see in a couple weeks how true these rumors are.

I hope it is substantially improved Siri should have access to locating content information and what streaming host has the content you desire. Better owned digital content management and search would go a long ways as well as updating HDMI support.

Almost everything announced at Google I/O had * Absolutely nothing to do* with Android, so i’m not sure I understand the comparison.
Google I/O was almost entirely about Gemini (available on iOS) and search (also available on iOS along with literally everything).
The big android update for this year was, ironically, a UI redesign, just like Apple.

The difference between it asking for a user and not, is the difference between the profiles feature being used, and not.

We all have separate profiles in the apps, but never have used this feature on AppleTV. My wife and kids don't even know it exists.

I agree. With RCS now (apparently more improvements are coming), I have less reasons to keep my iPhone. I’m just glad the pictures and videos to Android users are not blurry anymore.

I certainly hope that this is including a 'Snow Leopard' type of under the hood improvements as well - in fact that the actual improvements are focused more on the inside rather than outside.

A Siri that better understands what I say or is better to use with CarPlay is all that I care about that may be AI related. I am more interested in the iPadOS updates for multitasking in Stage Manager.

At this point I'm bracing myself for the mess the will ensue having do deal with a UI overhaul. Have zero confidence that Apple at its current state is capable of delivering robust, stable, user friendly, bug-free software. They just keep promising or pushing half-baked features which pile up on top of other poorly implemented features instead of fixing everything that is broken.
