Infrared sensors are a possibility. Should allow for some kind of gestures. Don't think there will be a price change due to the addition of these sensors. Think it will take 2 years at least as AirPods Pro 3 should be getting a release this year.

I just want AirPods that connect instantly, have great battery life and decent enough sound quality. It's not rocket science, Apple!
Yes, and auto-connect to non-Apple devices ffs. Or even better, the bog standard dual connect bluetooth codec that most other earbuds have for crying out loud.

The only reason I still buy AirPods at all is that I have yet to find an alternative that I find comfortable.

Kind of like releasing a new Studio without a new Studio Display.
Or a Mini without a line of cheaper displays to match the budget of the Mini. Cameraless, speakerless, chipless - just a basic decent display in a nice Apple-esque design.

Basically the same display screen in an iMac, but without all the add-ons.

Surely a no-brainer.

Do you realise how creepy that sounds?
Of course, but I do think that is the trajectory such advances are heading. It’s already been done, and as the tech advances there will be an even more significant erosion of privacy.

There has been some discussion about making and posting online secretly filmed videos illegal, especially when the subject is then exposed to online ridicule. I can’t see Apple wanting to expose themselves to this bad publicity.

I wasn’t so much thinking Apple would build that in, but third parties creating programs to do that; similar to the Meta hack. The increase in computing power in small devices, easy access to large amounts of data, and ever smaller cameras capable of capturing reasonable amounts of detail will make getting information on what is around them much easier and bring it to the masses. Not in the near future, but not that far away.

That can be for good, such as hearing a review of a restaurant you are looking at, providing guided tours, etc.; or evil such as mass surveillance and conning people by learning details about them.

Are you being serious?

iPhone speakers aren’t already positioned at your ears
Thats not entirely true. There is a speaker up by the notch/island which is by your ear during a call.

But yeah, for all other audio scenarios, AirPods/headphones are better, and less intrusive to the people around you, than the phone speakers.

So are camera’s gonna be Pro 3rd gen? Or 4th Gen? Trying to gauge if I should hold onto my Pro 2s for 3s or go ahead and replace them with the USB-C version. They’re tired. If the 3s are going to have camera’s, then I’m not upgrading.

This makes no sense, why would Apple spend millions of dollars to add technology to a device sold to hundreds of millions of people to benefit on thousands of Apple Vision owners?

Does he not realize that the Vision Pro already does this with its accelerometers and built-in optic sensors?

Adding the sensors to the AirPods would give this same experience to non-vision-pro experiences. The new Powerbeats Pro 2 are a test-case for the tech. It’s a good idea.

Edit: I really think Kuo’s quote got mixed up in translation. The new sensors are clearly bringing the audio ray tracing stack outside of the Vision Pro. That and low latency lossless are genuinely pushing audio forward.
that doesn't seem like something I would want. I'm exercising and as I walk, the sound source moves farther and farther away? It might make sense for watching something on a big screen but why wouldn't you want the sound to always be set up like a sound stage? 3d only makes sense for vr and the headset has accelerometers.

It’s certainly better for static listening and really only works for head tracking. When walking, the band is basically around you.

In a nutshell, you’re simulating having multiple speakers (I think Apple’s implementation is 64 speakers in a circle). It’s more information and can be more realistic. Really makes most sense for movies.
